The New Mexico Career Development Association (NMCDA) serves professional counselors and human development specialists employed in schools, colleges, rehabilitation agencies, corrections, mental health areas, private business, and private industry. The purpose of the NMCDA is to promote a greater understanding of the meaning of work and vocation, to foster career development over the lifespan, to establish and improve the standards of professional service in the field of career guidance in New Mexico, and to enhance communication and cooperation among all career development professionals.
NMCDA is a branch of the National Career Development Association. NMCDA offers professional development opportunities and social events throughout the year for its membership. In addition, NMCDA offers free community workshops on implementing successful job search strategies. |

Past President - Marty Apodaca
Marty Apodaca is the Career Counseling Manager at the University of New Mexico’s (UNM) Office of Career Services where he assists in the growth and development of the Career Development Facilitators. Marty has worked in the field of career development for over a decade and is the current President – Elect of the National Career Development Association and Past President of the New Mexico Career Development Association. Marty has publications in the Career Development Quarterly, Career Planning and Adult Development Network, and Career Convergence. Marty has also been published in the Journal of Individual Psychology, Teaching and Supervision in Counseling, and ACA’s VISTAS web magazine.
Marty is a Professional Clinical Mental Health Counselor, Certified Career Counselor, and National Certified Counselor. Originally from Dexter, NM, Marty has called Albuquerque home for the past 20 years and is devoted to promoting career development for the UNM community, the State of New Mexico, and through advocacy at the national level. A passion of Marty’s is exploring and presenting on the interconnections of career and mental health and the implementation of the Career Construction Interview when working with clients. Outside of work, Marty enjoys spending time with his wife, family, friends, and bulldog. |
